FAQ

Here are questions that seem to get asked the most! If you can’t find the answer to a question you have, you can email Katherine at hey@designingtherow.com.

+ Will you write my website copy?

Designing the Row is a website DESIGN agency (hence the name). So while we don't write FOR you, we have various resources and prompts to help you create the copy for your website.

+ Do I need a logo?

We think logos are optional. So, that's up to you! If you don't have a logo, we DO recommend you have a font that is specific to your brand name that acts as your logo.

+ How do I pick my brand colors? I have no idea where to start.

Don't worry, we'll work with you to pick your website color palette. And dare we say, it's a fun and easy process!?

+ Do you build membership sites?

Yes we do. We recommend integrating MemberSpace or using the built-in Squarespace Member Area tool. We can discuss which is best for you once you apply for the Custom Client Experience.

+ What platform should I use for email marketing?

The majority of DTR clients are using MailChimp... mainly because it's free to start building your list and integrates nicely with Squarespace.

+ What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. There are many SEO techniques that we will implement as we put your website together.

+ How do I get a new domain name?

There are several ways you can go about getting a new domain name if you don’t already have one. While it’s totally fine to go through a 3rd party like GoDaddy, NameCheap, Network Solutions, etc. to get a domain name, we recommend getting your new domain name through Squarespace. BUT, wait for Designing the Row to help you do this so you can get your domain name free for a year. To do this, Designing the Row will start your Squarespace website account (so you can get 20% off Squarespace pricing) and then once you pay to upgrade your Squarespace account, you will be offered a domain name free for a year (offered with Squarespace's annual plan only).

+ Do I have to transfer my domain name to Squarespace?

If you already have a domain name, you do not have to transfer the domain name to Squarespace to have a Squarespace website (unless you’re unhappy with your current domain name provider). Designing the Row will help you edit the Advanced DNS (Domain Name System) settings to “point” your domain name to Squarespace. This is very common.

+ Can I set up an email account through my Squarespace website?

Yes! Once your domain name is connected to your Squarespace website, you/we can create your Google Workspace account directly through Squarespace (there is an extra charge per email address).

+ What is Squarespace?

Squarespace is an all-in-one website design platform that offers design templates, website hosting, e-commerce, analytics, and more.

+ How much does Squarespace cost?

Squarespace has various plans, so your cost will depend on your site needs. You can check out Squarespace pricing plans here.

+ What does the Squarespace fee cover?

A lot! Website hosting, a free custom domain name (if paid annually), SSL Security, Unlimited Bandwidth and Storage, SEO features, Mobile-Optimized Websites, Customer Support, Basic Website Metrics, and more.

+ Do I need website hosting?

When you pay Squarespace, you’re paying for hosting. That means, if you have a current hosting plan elsewhere, you will no longer need that to support your website after switching to Squarespace.

+ What’s your affiliation with Squarespace?

Katherine Forbes (DTR's founder) is a Squarespace Expert, Authorized Trainer, and Circle Member. She does not work for Squarespace but exclusively designs websites using their platform.

+ Can I update my website after it’s live?

Yes, that is one of the main reasons why we design using Squarespace — so you can easily maintain your website after it’s live. We'll even teach you how!

+ Can I pay you to update my website after it’s live?

Yes, if you’d rather pass updates to the Designing the Row team — we’re here to support you and will bill you on an hourly basis.

+ Will you teach my students/company/etc. how to use Squarespace?

Yes, please email Katherine at hey@designingtherow.com for more information. Katherine (Founder of Designing the Row) is a Squarespace Authorized Trainer. “Squarespace Authorized Trainers have a deep understanding of our all-in-one platform and use that knowledge to empower anyone to own their web presence.”

+ How much does it cost for you to design a new Squarespace website?

Designing the Row offers several different packages to meet you wherever you are on your website journey. Please book a call in order to disucss package and pricing details.

+ Can I pay via credit card, PayPal, or check?

Yes, yes, and yes. Designing the Row invoices are digital and allow you to pay with card or PayPal. You may also send a check to the Designing the Row address listed on the invoice if you prefer.

+ Do I own my website or does Designing the Row?

You own your website! Designing the Row is just acting as the designer of your website. We will help you get your account setup, but on your behalf. This is stated in more detail in the project contract.

+ Can you design a site for me using WordPress, Weebly, Wix, Bandzoogle, etc?

We can, but we won’t… we’re not trying to make things difficult for you, but we’ve spent time testing the various platforms and believe Squarespace is the best option for our design style, turnaround time, and various other reasons.

+ How long have you been designing websites?

Katherine (Founder of Designing the Row) has been designing websites since college (2010). She majored in Music Technology and spent her final year coding a website from scratch to feature her piano performances. Since then she’s worked in artist management and for a music association, which is how and why Designing the Row is a website design company geared towards the music industry! Katherine knows not only what it’s like to be a musician, but she knows the business end of things and can help guide artists on more than just design but also on what an artist website needs!

+ Do you only design websites for musicians?

While Designing the Row works primarily with musicians, we’re also passionate about working with small businesses and creatives.

+ I’m not in Nashville, can I still hire you?

Yes, of course! Designing the Row’s roster has a wide range of clients from across the world.

+ Will you manage my social media?

Social media content creation, planning, and scheduling are all part of the Winning Website Formula process. That said, we believe social media success requires the client to be very hands on (we can't read your minds or pretend to be you, you know?) so we deliver you step-by-step resources, guides, and tools and you do the work.
